Under the supervision of Hon’ble Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar, Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Mohali and the able guidance of Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Learned District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, National Lok Adalat pertaining to all types of cases (except non compoundable criminal cases) was held in District Patiala on 12.12.2020. For this purpose, 14 judicial benches (Patiala 11, Samana 01, Rajpura 01 & Nabha 01) were constituted in Patiala Sessions Division. During this National Lok Adalat, cases under different categories were taken up for settlement through amicable settlement and 1265 Cases were settled involving amount of Rs. 276103254/- During this National Lok Adalat, Hon’ble Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar interacted with Ld. District & Sessions Judge, Patiala at the Lok Adalat Bench of Sh. Shiv Mohan Garg, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Patiala. On this occasion, Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal & Ms. Parminder Kaur Patiala visited each Lok Adalat bench of Patiala court and inspired the parties to resolve their dispute amicably and peaceably by taking recourse to this National Lok Adalat. Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge further told that Primary objective of the Lok Adalats is to settle the disputes amicably through compromise so as to save the time and money of the parties and to reduce personal enmity between them. Except non-compoundable criminal cases, all kinds of cases even at pre-litigative stage, can be brought before Lok Adalats, for amicable settlement.
While talking about the benefits of Lok Adalats, Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld. Additional District & Sessions Judge, Patiala told that when a case is settled in Lok Adalat, its award becomes final and no appeal lies against it. Moreover, court fees (if any paid) is refunded to parties and parties to dispute get speedy disposal of their dispute and that too, as per their own mutually settled terms. So, there is a win-win situation for both the parties. During the E- National Lok Adalat, precautionary measures like the use of face masks, sanitization and social distancing were strictly followed for protection against Covid-19.
